The DEFY Skyline Collection was inspired by modern cityscapes where the structures and light are bound in a constantly moving interplay. The DEFY Skyline skeleton is quite frankly, cool. The watch moves the asymmetrical seconds sub-dial found on the 9 o’clock for the DEFY Skyline models to the 6 o’clock, creating a perfect symmetrical watch with their skeleton variant. The sub-dial at 6 provides a constant running dial at 1/10th of a second, making steady increments and completing a complete rotation every 10 seconds.
The watch is housed in a 41mm steel case, the dial takes on the form of a four-pointed star, a homage to the ZENITH “Double Z” logo from the 1960s. Super-Luminova is applied on the watches’ hour markers, central hours, and minute hands to ensure legibility. This skeletonised watch is available in black or blue, the skeletons’ main plate and bridges are finished all in the same colour as the dials.
The geometry of the DEFY models has 12 unique defined edges, positioned as extensions to the hour markers. This watch features a screw-down crown featuring a signature Zenith star emblem which provides a water resistance of 10 ATM (100 metres).
With visibility from the back as well as a sapphire crystal display back, the openwork of the automatic El Primero Calibre, and the 3620 SK can be seen. This automatic movement drives the 1/10th second sub-dial directly from the escapement, beating at 5Hz (36,000 vph). This is powered by the efficient automatic bi-directional winding mechanism, which is also the signature Zenith Star-shape and delivers a power reserve of approximately 60 hours.
