TAG Heuer x Porsche Partnership
On February 2021, TAG Heuer and Porsche formed a partnership between a car manufacturer and a watchmaker, TAG’s rich history with racing and Porsches evident luxury motor brand was a match made in heaven.
The partnership and crossing of paths between TAG Heuer and Porsche is nothing new, for around 70 years both brands have been meeting on and off the racetrack, both strongly linked to motorsport, and of course the Carrera name itself is shared by both.
The Carrera Panamericana is a legendary race, reputed to be one of the most dangerous in the world. It inspired both Porsche, which won its first class victory at the Carrera Panamericana race in 1954 and named its most powerful model in its honor, and Jack Heuer, who decided to name his new 1963 chronograph accordingly after hearing about the race’s highly evocative name from the Rodriguez brothers in Sebring in 1962.
TAG Heuer Carrera X Porsche Orange Racing
This TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph x Porsche Orange Racing matches unmistakably Porsche aesthetic into watchmaking. Using a Vibrant orange throughout the watch, inspired by the car’s heat sparks on asphalt, which provides a cool little racy touch. The orange is found on the watches Porsche logo on the bezel, lacquer on the crown and small touches on the dial, with “azuré” counters and an orange seconds hand.
Using another key colour, a special edition black which I think really brings out the brightness of the orange contrast. Like a black car with little orange details. The case has been given a high-quality black treatment – diamond-like carbon (DLC), bringing the watch an elegant colour and unfailing resistance. TAG Heuer states the dial was inspired by kinetics and speed.
On the TAG Heuer Carrera x Porsche is a custom-designed oscillating weight, which pays homage to that of the Porsche Steering wheels. The weight is visible through a sapphire glass case back, labeled appropriately with “Porsche and “TAG Heuer”.
The timepiece’s strap includes a carbon-like calfskin strap in black, again putting the highlights on the vivid orange featured on this watch, a perfect finishing touch to the racing inspiration of the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph x Porsche Orange Racing.
