TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph 60th Anniversary Edition

TAG Heuer introduces a 600-piece limited edition to celebrate Jack Heuer’s creation, the Carrera. First introduced in 1963, the Carrera has set the standard for wristwatch chronographs since its introduction, thanks to its classic, elegant profile, and ultra-legible dial. It has been synonymous with motorsport, literally using the name of a legendary (and extremely dangerous) 1962 road race the ‘Carrerra Panamericana’, the watch was worn by the likes of James Hunt in the 1960s as well. Truly, the Carrerra is an icon in the watch and racing world.

TAG Heuer brings back the most collectible of all vintage Carreras, the reference 2447 SN of the late 1960s. A clear characteristic of this reference was the Panda Dial or the Reverse Panda Dial; either a silvered dial and black subdials or a black dial with silver subdials. The vintage reference 2447 SN featured a Valjoux 72, which is now a highly sought-after caliber and is known to be one of the best chronograph movements, ever. I for one think this is a perfect vintage re-issue of the 2447 SN. Featuring the classic Heuer logo with the name Carrera above it. The counter at 6 carries the word ‘Swiss’ just like the 2447 SN, without the T above Swiss; T represents Tritium, a radioactive material used on the original watch, this has been replaced with a Super-LumiNova on the new model.

To provide a faithful reinterpretation of the classic, the dial features a 39mm polished steel case, with a raised profile ‘glass box’ in sapphire crystal, vintage pushers, a beige lume, and a slimline tension ring around the dial’s outer edge. The case back of this limited-edition release features the watch’s individual number out of 600, water resistance, and an awesome pin buckle.
